Café du Monde makes it all possible

Café du Monde: Helping You Have Fun
Located in the historical district of the Old Port of Quebec, Café du Monde keeps on top of what there is to do in the city. Ask us about the latest festival!

On the Menu of Things to Do

Become an Explorer
The enormous bay windows in the dining room gives a view of impressive scenery. In the winter, ice floes drift in the St. Lawrence River. While this may be an everyday occurrence for local inhabitants, tourists from countries in warmer climes will find this a sight to behold. In years past, seals, ice fishing huts and even a car were seen floating atop these miniature icebergs! You could say that they exaggerate as much at Café du Monde as they do in Marseille, but the stories are true!

Docking at Café du Monde
Café du Monde gives you an excellent viewpoint for watching the trimarans, keelboats, centreboard boats, pleasure boats and luxurious vessels on their way to Trois-Rivières, Montreal or Tadoussac. You can also see the large ocean liners, flying American, British, Norwegian, French, Liberian, Panamanian or other nations' flags, moored at the quays. The Queen Elizabeth II is expected to dock here in the summer of 2003.

Admire Château Frontenac
Heads of State, royalty, movie stars, famous musicians, and historical figures both past and present have stayed at the Château Frontenac! If you are sitting in the Café du Monde glassed-in dining area, you can see the Château standing proudly over Cape Diamant and the Dufferin Terrace. Construction on the Château began at the end of the 19th century. Its copper roof is typical of buildings in Quebec City dating from this period.

Île d'Orléans: A Haven in the Middle of the St. Lawrence
Only a few nautical miles from your table lies Île d'Orléans. Famous Quebec composer and poet Félix Leclerc lived there. Today, traditional Quebec farmhouses, crafts, inns and joie de vivre characterize life on the island. Maple syrup is harvested in the spring, strawberries and raspberries in the summer and apples in the fall. A magical island you will want to visit again and again.

Quebec City Festivals

  • Every summer, the New France Festival takes place only a short distance from Café du Monde. You can experience life in the former French colony at the time of Champlain, founder of Quebec City.
  • The Québec Winter Carnival is a series of outdoor winter activities that take place in the Old Port of Quebec, including the daring canoe race across the icy St. Lawrence River and dogsled race through the streets of the Old City.
  • The Capitole de Québec hosts many popular shows, such as Elvis Story! Located only a short, five-minute, taxi ride from Café du Monde.
  • In July, the Québec City Summer Festival has the entire city grooving to pop, folk, blues, rock, baroque and jazz music. The Grand Rire Bleue, French language comedy festival is always a hit. Both are only a few minutes from Café du Monde.
  • During the summer, there are some interesting shows presented at the Agora of the Old Port. Buy your tickets early; if sold out, then come to the terrace of Café du Monde the evening of the show. The Agora is only a stone's throw away, and if the wind is blowing in the right direction, you will be able to hear the concert!
